How to Make 3D Music Visualizers in Blender

Go behind the scenes of my 3D music video visualizer for the remix of Clipse’s "Ace Trumpets".

I start by box modeling stylized KAWS hands and skull with crossbones in Blender, using box modeling and sculpting to customize the forms. I textured the models in Substance Painter, layering bone textures and adjusting colors to fit the aesthetic of the album cover.

To play on the gospel-inspired vibe of the remix, I design a custom gospel choir robe from scratch in Marvelous Designer, experimenting with seams, folds, and fabric.

I then customize an aged character in Character Creator, animated her character in iClone 8 and used shape keys in Blender for expressive facial animation.

All video elements are composited and finalized in After Effects, using found footage and the 3D renders to create the final video.

The remix was produced in Ableton Live.
